I used to be really disappointed with glitter paints and glitter glues. They look so spectacular in the bottle but often look awful and disappointing when you paint with them because the background colour isn’t there. So what you do is first paint a background colour as close as possible to your glitter colour. Let it dry and then paint the glitter paint over the top. Then it looks spectacular and you get the effect of glitter without glitter shedding everywhere. It’s much tidier than just using glue and glitter!
Also this works SUPER well painting the inside of clear baubles! Though of course, for that you need to put the glitter layer first, then the solid colour behind.
