Canvas Panel(8)
Paper and canvas are all well and good, but have you ever tried painting on a canvas panel? Our canvas boards are especially made for you to get painting on, fast! With black and white varieties available in a large range of sizes, we’re sure to have the right kind of panel for you.
Why Choose A Canvas Panel?
A canvas panel combines the convenient size and portability of paper with the strength and texture of a canvas. Let’s go through some of the great things about our canvas panel range:
- We have triple-primed the canvas on the panel, ensuring the perfect surface for painting that won’t stretch or crack over time.
- An acid-free surface that will keep your colours fresh and vibrant long after they’ve been painted.
- Our canvas boards are between 270gsm and 300gsm, meaning the canvas on them won’t buckle or tear easily as you paint.
- Because they are wooden panels underneath all that canvas, they’re tough! No need to worry about them bending, snapping or getting chipped as you paint or move them around. They also won’t let light through them, which can be helpful if you’re painting outside or in front of a light.
Black or White?
You may have noticed we have black canvas panels as well as white in our store! Painting on black can be a little daunting if it’s your first time, but you can achieve spectacular results if you use the right mediums.
To make stand-out artwork on a black canvas panel, try using:
- Metallic Paints, such as this gleaming Metallic Gold paint. Metallics will sparkle against a dark background and great for bringing some sparkle into your art.
- Fluoro Paints like this gorgeous Fluoro Blue acrylic will really pop against a dark background and will draw eyes to your artwork.
- Pearl Pigment Powder, like the stunning Micro Pearl pigment. You can mix this into other paints to make them more reflective and shinier, or just sprinkle it over a damp surface to add some beautiful sparkles!
The dark colouration of a black panel makes it great for painting night-time scenes as well – use that black background to your advantage!
Tools for Using Canvas Panels
Of course you’ll need more than just a canvas panel to make some art! Here are some accessories we recommend:
- Acrylic or Oil Paints – canvas boards are only suitable for oil or acrylic paint. Our Basics Acrylic Set has all the primary colours and shades you need, while our Oil Paint Pack has a great range of oil paints to get you going.
- Painting Knives & Brushes – apply your paint in big, beautiful swathes or small dabs using a painting knife, or create intricate details and careful strokes using one of our many paint brushes.
- An Easel – keep your canvas board steady and at a comfortable height with one of our adjustable easels.
- A Palette – keep your paints separate and in easy reach with one of our plastic palettes.
